Our Mission

Visilant's mission is to increase access to eye care in remote areas in India to decrease the incidence of avoidable blindness.

Problem Background: As of today, there are over 1.2 billion cases of visual impairment worldwide. India specifically bears the greatest burden of disease with over 160 million cases of visual impairment in India alone.

The good news is that around the world, 80% of these cases could have been prevented with proper healthcare intervention.

Currently, there are outreach efforts being made by Indian eye care systems to reach these patients. Typically this is through eye camps organized by the hospitals for the sole purpose of screening a large number of patients at one time, but still as of now only 20% of patients in need of care are reached with these efforts.

In low-to-middle income countries (LMICs), care is often delayed due to a lack of trained ophthalmologists. There is only one ophthalmologist for every 91 thousand patients in India. Additionally, patients are often far from eye care facilities and their outreach efforts, and thus do not have any consistent touch-points and integration. This delay in care leads to disease progression and vision loss for millions of patients.

Our Solution:

This is where Visilant comes in! We are an end-to-end patient outreach and diagnostic system optimized to serve eye care systems in low-to-middle income countries with the goal of reducing the incidence of preventable blindness and integrating underserved populations to provide long term care.
